After You Give Birth

Once you have given birth, the nursing staff will provide you with instructions and information about how to care for yourself and how to feed, diaper, bathe, and care for your new baby.  The nurses are always available to answer any questions.

Breast Feeding

Board-certified Lactation Consultants provide instruction and support with breastfeeding.  A lactation consultant is available for one-on-one support to new mothers during and after their stay at NWH.

For questions regarding breastfeeding call: 914.666.1370.

Newborn Channel

  • The Newborn Channel, a complimentary television service offered by NWH, is available as an additional educational opportunity.
  • The Newborn Channel provides educational programming, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to all patients on the maternity floor, including those in labor and delivery.
  • Topics include diaper changing, postpartum care, first aid, automobile safety, comforting a crying baby, coming home, and more.
  • Programs can be accessed on Channel 70 of your television.  Channel 71 features these programs in Spanish.

Birth Certificates

A birth certificate must be completed for all babies born in New York State.  Please complete the birth certificate form, which can be found in your admission packet, and give it to your nurse.  The state will mail you an official copy of the birth certificate within a few months.
